What is HCG?

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a powerful hormone that women produce when they are pregnant. The hormone aids in promoting healthy absorption of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, that the fetus will use for development. And while HGC is a naturally-made hormone, when you combine it with a special low-carb diet, it has been known to produce some amazing weight loss results.

The HCG diet dates back to about 1954 when a doctor named Albert Simeons started giving HCG injections to overweight people. He published his study in the Lancet, a well known medical journal.

How Does HCG Help You Lose Weight?

Taking HCG causes your body to think it’s pregnant. When this happens, your body will continue to search for a source of energy to feed the fetus. But because you’re consuming so few calories, and no carbs, that source of energy will come from stored fat.

Data from an HCG study conducted by Dr. Sheri L. Emma made it’s way onto the Dr. Oz show in 2012. In Emma’s study, women who supplemented with HCG saw rapid weight loss, but with less lean muscle loss than those in the placebo group.[1]

For HCG diets to be successful, there are two key points to keep in mind. First, you need to get HCG injections. Don’t be fooled by sprays, pills, or drops. These may help a little, but to experience real weight loss, you’ll need HCG injections from a reputable doctor who can monitor your progress.

Secondly, you need to follow the special HCG diet. It’s very restrictive, as 500 calories a day isn’t very much fuel for your body. But it’s precisely this calorie restriction that allows for the HCG to help pull fat from areas it’s currently stored in your body.

The beauty of the HCG diet is how fast it works. But in order to shed pounds quickly, you’ll need to follow those two key points.

According to Dr. Simeons, giving patients HCG along with the 500 calorie diet was better for weight loss than just the diet. He claimed that his technique achieved fast weight loss without people being hungry. This he said was because HCG suppressed appetite and enhanced people’s moods.

In one six-week study involving 40 overweight women, those receiving 125 units of HCG along with calorie restriction lost more weight than those women who took a placebo.[2]

HCG injections will also help to reset the hypothalmus gland, which is responsible for fat distribution and storage throughout your body. Overweight individuals tend to have ill-functioning glands, which creates an environment where more fat is stored. HCG will help prevent that from happening.

Is HCG Safe?

HCG is definitely safe. However, the key to keeping any weight loss program as safe as possible is getting qualified guidance from a healthcare professional. Any time you limit calories to such a degree, there is the potential for side effects. However, we’ll make sure you’re able to reach your weight loss goals as effectively and as safely as possible.

Common side effects of supplementing with HCG include:

  • Headache
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Swelling in the feet, ankles, lowers legs, or hands
  • Appearance of female breasts in men
  • Pain in the area where you received the injection

HCG might not to be safe for you if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Are allergic to HCG
  • Have prostate cancer or another cancer that is stimulated by male hormones, or androgens

The Golden Rules of the HCG Diet

  1. The 500 calorie per day diet is mandatory. The combination of calorie restriction and HCG works at shedding pound really fast.
  2. Understand the phases of the program. There are three: loading, maintenance, and stabilization. Each is a little different.
  3. No cheating. The hardest part of this diet is staying at or under 500 calories a day, and not cheating.
  4. There are no breaks. This is a continual program from start to finish.
  5. Be ready for side effects. Side effects are rare on the HCG diet, but you may experience mild headache, constipation, or dizziness.
  6. Monitor your measurements. It’s very motivating to see that you’re dropping inches and pounds, so use it as motivation.
  7. Be ready for the plateau. During any weight loss or exercise program, you can reach a point where progress stalls. It’s common.
  8. Never skip a dose. Inconsistent doses will yield inconsistent results. It’s important to stick to the plan, including when and how much HCG you’re supposed to take.
  9. No alcohol. Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while on the weight loss program.
  10. Mind your grocery list. A big part of this program involves choosing healthy whole foods.

What is Phentermine?

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant and prescription drug that’s often used for weight loss. This amphetamine-class agent binds to receptors in your hypothalamus gland, which essentially makes you numb to hunger.

Since it was first approved by the FDA in 1959, phentermine has helped millions of people lose weight, and for this reason it’s still the most widely prescribed weight loss medication in the US.

How Does Phentermine Help You Lose Weight?

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant. The drug causes your brain to stimulate your adrenal glands. When this happens, neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin are released. The release of these neurotransmitters create a satiety effect – the feelings of fullness.

Researchers in Korea found that short-term phentermine use can cause significant weight reduction without adverse side effects on relatively healthy obese people.[3]

Phentermine should also help reduce cravings. And for many people, losing weight is as much about self control as it is anything else.

Phentermine also provides an energy boost. The release of adrenaline stimulates certain bodily functions like increasing glucose and fatty acid levels in the body, and breaking down food more efficiently. An increase of energy production at the cellular level means more blood flow to muscles and more oxygen to your lungs.

That increase in energy is perfect for adding more physical activity to your day, which will also help you with your weight loss goals. That newfound energy will keep you alert and focused throughout the day, and will help you avoid those late afternoon cravings.

Doctors at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases found that Phentermine in conjunction with healthy habits “leads to greater mean weight loss and an increased likelihood of achieving clinically meaningful 1-year weight loss relative to placebo.”[4]

When taking Phentermine for weight loss, individual results vary based on a number of factors such as age, activity level, and starting weight. However, it is possible to lose several pounds in the first week.

Your weight loss will slow a little after that. It’s important to remember that Phentermine is considered a short-term solution to weight problems, as it’s generally prescribed 12 weeks at a time. Our goal, if you choose to try Phentermine, is that you’ll continue living at a health weight even after your prescription runs out.

Is Phentermine Safe?

You should not take phentermine if you have a history of heart disease (coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems, congestive heart failure, stroke), severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, glaucoma, a history of pulmonary hypertension, if you are in an agitated state, or if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Taking phentermine together with other diet medications such as fenfluramine (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine (Redux) can cause a rare fatal lung disorder called pulmonary hypertension. Do not take this medicine with any other diet medications without your doctor’s advice.

To make sure phentermine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

  • High blood pressure;
  • Diabetes;
  • Kidney disease;
  • A thyroid disorder; or
  • If you are allergic to aspirin or to yellow food dye (FD & C Yellow No. 5, or tartrazine).
